I was in town for the book project that had taken my research assistant Tory and me through 27 states, interviewing gay bar professionals. Gay bars are a marker of cosmopolitanism for small cities. They are the only physical places where LGBTQ people gather in public, and they serve multi-county regions of multiple states. Small-city gay bars like those in Lima or Ft. They are institutional histories of a region, a safer place to meet strangers, escape families, or bump into old friends or new lovers.
Secret lives in a Ugandan gay bar
Gay Clubs Are More Than Just Clubs, They Are A Home
A gay bar is a drinking establishment that caters to an exclusively or predominantly lesbian , gay , bisexual , and transgender LGBT clientele; the term gay is used as a broadly inclusive concept for LGBT and queer communities. Gay bars once served as the centre of gay culture and were one of the few places people with same-sex orientations and gender-variant identities could openly socialize. Other names used to describe these establishments include boy bar , girl bar , gay club , gay pub , queer bar , lesbian bar , drag bar , and dyke bar , depending on the niche communities that they served. Gathering places favoured by homosexuals have operated for centuries.

“We Have A Gay Bar Here.” You Don’t Need A Coast to Be Cosmopolitan
Kampala - Just as he attends church on Sunday morning, there's another sacred place Nick, a year-old Kampala stylist, flocks to every Sunday night. It's a beautiful Sunday. During the week this pub, located in the capital's business district but away from the nightclub strip, is full of unsuspecting, heterosexual Ugandans. But for six hours on a Sunday night that fly by all too fast, the venue, with its grass-thatched roof and flashing fluorescent disco floor lights, becomes a haven for Uganda's gay community who meet here to drink, dance and more.
Thais. Age: 26. Treat yourself with a touch of class and make your night an unforgettable pleasure. I would like to be your companion to official engagements, cultural events as well as personal intimate friend for pleasurable and hedonistic hours in private atmosphere.
Stop by for a beer and stick around for the crowd that streams in as the night descends. Tiny, tasteful and terribly nice, this small bar caters to an upscale Mitte crowd mainly pouring in for a post-work cocktail or two. Tucked away in a busy post-industrial complex in Friedrichshain, Zum Schmutzigen Hobby is both bar and club in one. The regular drag shows are a favourite. There are plenty of private booths for shyer songbirds, but the real magic happens in the main room.
